Edinburgh Festival Clock

Each festival is represented by a circle. Each line on the circle represents a performance during the festival. Performances burn brighter as they approach their starting times, burn brightest when they are running and burn out when their festival run is complete.

Each colour represents a different genre of performance. Each ring within a festival represents a category: here they represent the minimum price of a ticket, running from the most expensive in the centre out to the least expensive.

Edinburgh Festival Clock

The Edinburgh Festival Clock is a visualisation commissioned by the Edinburgh Festivals Innovation Lab and supported by the INTERREG IVB North-West Europe Programme.

It was designed by Stefanie Posavec and developed by Justin Quillinan. It was built using the newSummer Festivals Listings API.

It shows the wonder and complexity of every show in the 2011 programme listings data for the Edinburgh summer festivals: International, Fringe, Art, Book, Jazz & Blues, Mela and Tattoo. The visualisation shows how the festivals evolve through the season, showing how every event lights up and burns out as it begins and ends.
